My hair has been having some trouble lately. Okay, trouble doesn’t really seem to cover what has been happening with my hair in the past few months. Long story short, I got my naturally dark brunette hair dyed light blonde. This little beauty decision then caused a series of events that made my hair have more split ends then I even thought possible, thin to the point where it was half the volume, and start to fall out in clumps. In the simplest of terms, my hair was one hot mess, minus the hot.

In the passed few months I tried to do everything I could think of to fix the mess that made it’s home on the top of my head. Hot oil treatment, dry shampoo, avocado hair mask, caster oil, fish oil supplements; if Vogue, Cosmo, or Glamour had an article on how to fix damaged hair, I tried it.

But then my great aunt told me about this trick called, “No-Poo”. Now, before you guys get your mind in the gutter, let me be clear when I say that it has absolutely nothing to do with a toilet. That’s right, I knew what you guys were thinking. No, “No-Poo” is a hair cleansing technique which is said to be amazing for your hair. The cleansing method is all natural, times saving, and made with items that everyone has around their house.

How to do “No-Poo”

Wash your hair once a week with baking soda. Don’t use any shampoo or conditioner, just sprinkle your hair with baking soda and rub it in with water while in the shower. Then, take a cup or so of apple cider vinegar and rinse your hair with it. Before you get out of the shower, give your hair another thorough rinse with water.

What To Expect

You will only be cleaning your hair once a week and this will cause some unwelcome changes to happen to your hair for the first few weeks. When you first start the “No-Poo” method, your hair will be very greasy for the first few weeks. But don’t worry, trust me when I tell you that it gets better; it just takes a few weeks for your hair to regulate the amount of oils that it releases from your scalp.

But if you push through those first few weeks, you will not regret it. You will come out of those few weeks with softer, healthier, and shinier hair. There has been reviews of the “No-Poo” method where users have claimed faster hair growth, more then an inch a month, and thicker hair.

Bottom line, the “No-Poo” method is the hair version of a phoenix; it’s amazing hair that came from the ashes of destroyed locks.

  1. Um, I have a question. I also have blonde hair and done no-poo 2 weeks, but I want to bleach my roots one day, then the noo-poo isn´t enough to clean that out? What do You suggest!? Thank You!
