In Defense of Milk

“Dairy is the Devil’s milk.”

I read this quote a couple weeks back when I got stuck in that dreaded internet rabbit hole. You know what I’m talking about. You go online to read one JUST ONE article, and before you know it, five hours passed and you have traveled to websites you’ve never been to before. Which, by the way and super random, did you know that they actually have chat rooms just for people who believe themselves to be zombies? How did I go from looking at pictures of New York Fashion Week to zombies?

Coming across this line against dairy, I couldn’t help but to roll my eyes at it. You see, our society has this nasty habit of deeming foods to be bad for us, aka devil’s milk, while gathering no solid evidence to back up this claim. Most times these claims are discovered to be, not just untrue, but the opposite of the original claim.

Take fat for example. Remember how it was deemed to be the worst thing for you to eat and the sole cause of obesity in the 80s and 90s? Well, people are finally realizing that fat does not make you fat and that it even has many health benefits, such as, aiding digestion, helping eyesight, better hair and skin, preventing insomnia and WEIGHT LOSS. And yes, I am even talking about saturated fats.

This is also true for those so-called ‘super foods’, which are later discovered to pretty much do nothing to benefit our health. I’m looking at you acai berry…

Grandma always said to drink your glass of milk and grandmas knows a thing or two about the benefits of milk. Milk is a great source for calcium and protein; where a single cup of cottage cheese can pack 26 grams of protein and a cup of yogurt can give you 480mgs of calcium. It is also packed full of vitamins, such as magnesium, folate, B1, B2, B6, B12, and vitamins A, D, and E. Also, dairy helps to thicken bone density (no that’s not a myth) and lower blood pressure due to it’s high content of vitamin D.

I shall rise up against all the dairy haters of the world! Take a stand in defense of my cookies beloved best friend and cereal’s partner in crime! Dairy is not the devil’s milk. You just need to find the one that fits you best.

So, I ask you this, brave readers….

Cow, almond, sheep, coconut, soy, skim, half&half, cashew, raw, goat, chocolate, or organic
