Starbuck 2.0

No, there’s not a second version of Starbucks out there. What I mean by Starbuck 2.0 are the copycat versions of the mega coffee chain’s holiday drinks. A copycat version that is healthier, make at home friendly, and perhaps just a tad bit more jolly.

Like many coffee drinkers, I absolutely love the specialty drinks that Starbucks releases during the holiday season. Unfortunately, my pencil skirt doesn’t seem to love the calories and high-fat content that come with them. It’s just a downside of, you know, biology.

So, if you want to drink your double whipped-caramel drizzle-cinnamon sprinkled-eggnog latte AND wear that new dress to the office holiday party, then check out these healthy alternative recipes for your favorite holiday drinks.

Let Santa be the one with a belly that ‘shakes like a bowl full of jelly’ this year.

Eggnog Latte (Skinny Taste)

Servings: 1 • Calories: 73 • Points: 1.5 pts
Ingredients:

  • 2 shots espresso or 1/2 cup of strongly concentrated coffee
  • 1/4 cup skinny eggnog
  • 1/4 cup nonfat milk
  • additional sugar or sweetener to taste (extra pts)
  • nutmeg
  • *optional reduced fat whipped topping

Directions
1.) Brew coffee or espresso.
2.)Heat eggnog and combine with milk. Use frothing wand slowly up and down, side to side until eggnog and milk is thick and foamed. (Or put in blender if you don’t have a frothing wand).
3.)Pour coffee or espresso into mug, sweeten to taste and pour hot eggnog mixture over the top. Sprinkle with nutmeg and enjoy!

Gingerbread Latte (FoodieFiasco)

Servings: 1 • Calories: 50
Ingredients:

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp dried ginger
  • 1/2 tsp molasses
  • Sweetener, to taste
  • 1/2 cup freshly brewed coffee

Directions:

1.)Combine almond milk, cinnamon, ginger, and molasses in a glass measuring jar. Microwave for 1 minute and 30 seconds or until very hot.
2.)Whisk vigorously, blend in a blender, or froth with a milk frother.
3.)Pour into a big mug. Add as much coffee as you would like. Top with some whipped cream or extra frothed milk and cinnamon, if you like.

Pepperment Latte (Shape

Servings: 1 • Calories: 130
Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup coffee
  • 2 tbsp dark chocolate syrup
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 2 drops peppermint extract

Directions:

1.)Combine coffee, milk, peppermint, and dark chocolate into a large mug. Stir until all of the ingredients are fully blended and enjoy with a drizzle of chocolate on top.
